Government has made 12 digit biometric card i.e. Aadhaar card mandatory for mobile phones along with various other services schemes offered by the government.
To avoid discontinuation of services, one should link their Aadhaar to their Mobile Numbers.
In this article we have listed the ways in which one can complete the linkage process.
Types of Aadhaar – Mobile Linking
There are three ways to link the two numbers which also includes verification via OTP (One Time Password), agent assisted authentication, and IVRS (Interactive Voice Response) facility. These methods are very convenient as one can complete the process sitting at home. However, if one chooses to visit the mobile store in order to register their biometrics, they can do that.
One Time Password (OTP)
In order to help users link their Aadhaar with mobile, the government has suggested telecom operators to facilitate request of OTP on mobile phones. Subscribers will receive an OTP on the registered mobile number. This method is also applicable to e – verify mobile phones through websites or mobile phones. The subscribers can use this method to e – verify other mobile numbers that they are using.
Agent – Assisted Authentication
Agent – assisted authentication method is both secured and an easy process. It is secure because the telecom operators are instructed not to disclose complete KYC (Know Your Customers) details of subscribers to agents unlike in the past. This method is used for both SIM – verification and insurance verification. The subscriber’s valuable details are not stored on the agent’s device.
Interactive Voice Response System (IVRS)
Interactive Voice Response System (IVRS) is designed keeping the Aadhaar verification in mind.
Stepwise Procedure to Link Aadhaar Number with SIM card
In case a subscriber opts for e – KYC, they are not required to link Aadhaar with mobile anymore as they have already provided their biometrics at the time of taking the new connection. Else, all the pre – paid and post – paid subscribers are required to compulsorily complete the e – KYC process. It is an online procedure. Follow the steps below to link your Aadhaar number to the SIM cards:
- Steps 1 – Visit the nearest centre of respective telecom operator
- Step 2 – Submit the mobile number and Aadhaar card details
- Step 3 – You will be provided with 4 digit verification code that is an OTP to the subscriber’s mobile number from the re – verification application
- Step 4 – Submit the OTP to store executive and provide biometrics
- Step 5 – Receive a SMS after 24 hours. Reply “Y” in order to complete the e – KYC process.
Also note that the government has instructed the telecom operators to provide the door step service to help completing the re – verification service to the senior citizens, disabled or chronically ill people. The telecom operators are setting – up an online mechanism so that citizens can request for door step Aadhaar verification.
The deadline for the linkage is 31st March, 2018. And there are no charges levied on this process.
